14 amateur boxers duked it out in the ring on Saturday, May 04th for Agapè’s Amateur Boxing Fundraiser. This high energy fundraiser proved itself again with an excellent turnout of over 120 people. Cornwall’s own Tony Luis, Quebec Boxing Council Lightweight Champion provided commentary along with Scott Rogers and Councillor Dave Murphy was a fabulous Emcee. This hard hitting charity event at the Best Western Plus Parkway Inn benefitted the Agapè Centre to help knock out the effects of hunger, as well as, Champs Eastside Boxing Club. An inspiring speech was given at intermission by Jill Perry, two time Canadian Champion, sharing her story and encouraging people to get out there and volunteer with youth.
This event was made possible with the support of the numerous Sponsors: BMO Nesbit Burns, Grant-Marion Construction, KnorPlast Inc., Emard Bros. Lumbar, Adams, Sherwood, Swabey & Follon, Cardinal & Associates, Cornwall Tire, Bergeron Electric, Cornwall Overhead Door, Multi Doors & Windows, Cogeco, Standard Freeholder and our main supporter Scotiabank. A special thank you also goes to Dr. Lemire for being the doctor on-site for the boxers and her husband, who won the “reverse draw” and donated it back to the Agapè Centre.
