Who We Are
Poverty is a complex issue that is present in our community. Hunger lives here in our neighbourhoods, maybe even next door to you. Food insecurity, the lack of access to nutritious and affordable food, exists in Cornwall.
The Agapè Centre was founded in 1971 with the simple belief that no man, woman or child should go hungry. Agapè is a Greek word that means love and it is with dignity, compassion, openness and respect that we serve those in need in our community.
We partner with community organizations to address the issues of poverty and food insecurity, to improve access to food and to create awareness of the issues we have locally.
We are a community-driven non-profit charity, powered by the generosity of donors, partners, volunteers and staff who share in our vision.
What We do
There is no single solution to food poverty, but there are immediate steps that make a definitive impact in the community we serve. The Agapè Centre is the largest Community Market (foodbank) and Community Kitchen program in Cornwall, Ontario. We support over 3000 people monthly through our community market program and serve an average of 150 hot meals each weekday. In addition, we partner with Food Banks Canada, Feed Ontario, local grocery stores and wholesalers to address the issues of hunger and poverty, to improve access to food and basic resources and to create awareness of the issues we have locally.
The Agapè Centre relies 100% on donations of time, food, money, clothing and other household items from the community to generate revenue to provide essential services in our community.
