Next week’s breakfast with Dr. Charlebois is being sponsored by the Canadian Auto Workers Union. As you may have heard, the Agapè Centre is asking all residents to mark Hunger Awareness Week: Monday, May 06 to Friday May 10, 2013.
We are holding a breakfast and brought a special guest speaker Dr. Charlebois from the University of Guelph to speak on the economics of food, food banking and food security. Dr. Charlebois is the Acting Dean and Professor in the College of Management & Economics at the University of Guelph in Ontario and an award winning researcher and teacher. “Canadians expect to pay more at the grocery store in 2013, especially for meat and eggs, according to a forecast by University of Guelph researchers. Price hikes for staples such as meat, bread and cheese are also expected to drive record numbers of people to food banks in the coming year. At the same time, experts predict Canadian households will waste more food than ever, throwing out nearly 40 per cent of what they purchase. This is the new food deal for us, or is it? How can Food Banks help, can they make a difference?” Dr. Sylvain Charlebois.
We would appreciate your attendance as he is an inspiring and dynamic speaker and we want to make him feel welcome in Cornwall.
